Rough Hands

I carried you up the mountain to the tallest peaks
Just to have you fall
I didn't know these calluses would lose their grip
Is reality shifting into a place that I don't know?

The rocks tumble with your spinning body
And there's nothing I can do
I just stood there and watched, I let it happen
And I have to face the truth

I'm sorry I let you fall
I'm sorry, I didn't know what you were going through
I'm sorry, I let you fall
You've brought me down and now there's no one to heal these hands

These calluses tell their stories
Without the need for words
I saw the end, home plate was in view
But now I'm stuck at third with nowhere left to go

The rocks scrape my knees as they hit the ground
And there's nothing I can do
I want gravity to take it's hold on me
So I can join you

At the bottom of this mountain

I'm sorry I let you fall
I'm sorry, I didn't know what you were going through
I'm sorry I let you fall
You've brought me down and have made these hands so rough

This is my only regret
It's a burden I must bear
I just hope to see you again someday
I promise I'll meet you there

I'm sorry I let you fall
I'm sorry, I didn't know what you were going through
I'm sorry I let you fall
I admit, I don't think I'm any stronger because of this

These hands, they don't know what to do
They don't know, I don't know
