Catch-22

and as she curls up, fetal position, under the covers
it's not enough, true dedication, she don't want no other
well, she glances at the gun, and we both know what comes next
a funeral for a child who'd never forget

for all the sins she thought she did

all that pain, it just passes to everyone else
and all the weight, you know it does the same
i still can't believe it happened, or why i try
to make sense of all of it when i lie awake at night

and as she's brought down in a box
that everyone knows won't last
and new memories are hindered
by one thing in the past

and as she curls up, fetal position, under the covers
it's not enough, true dedication, she don't want no other
well, she glances at the gun, and we both know what comes next
a funeral for a child who'd never forget

all the sins she thought she did
and all the pain she thought she felt

it just passes to everyone else
and all the weight, it does the same
i still can't believe it happened, or why i try
to make sense of all of it when i lie awake at night

maybe i'm just worrying too much
but no matter what i do, it'll never be enough
to satisfy this catch-twenty-two
and i'm not even twenty-two

i just want to make sense for closure's sake
